FAQ How knowledgeable are your guides? We take great pride in having the best Interpretive Guides on the island. Our Guides are trained in island ecology, geology, natural history, in addition to safe driving practices, customer service and first aid. What we take pride in most is our interpretive approach. Rather than just reciting facts, our guides engage our guests’ senses in a manner that provokes discussion and creates deep and lasting connections between the guest and the places they visit. What are your office hours? Our reservation lines are open 7 days a week from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM.
What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy depends on the size of the party and company the reservation is with. FIT reservations require 48 hours-notice. Private charters require 72 hours-notice.
What happens if it rains?
We go rain or shine. Guides always bring raingear for everyone. We only cancel when weather makes transportation or walking hazardous.

Immerse yourself in a cultural experience as we explore West Oahu’s historic sites, stories, people and food. As we work our way from the beach to the forested mountains above, your interpretive guide will take you on a journey through time that includes two locations not open to the public. Birds & Wildlife of Oahu
Take advantage of Hawaii Forest & Trail’s unparalleled land access and expert birding guides on this wildlife tour. We’ll track native and exotic species found nowhere else in North America from a private access forest reserve high in the Waianae Mountains to the beaches and wetlands of the coast below. At the beach, we’ll also keep an eye out for some of Oahu’s endangered mammals including the Hawaiian Monk Seal and the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle. Highlights include: • Access private land that is exclusive to Hawaii Forest & Trail to visit one of the last habitats of the Oahu Elepaio . • Bird from the mountain to sea level to see a wide range of species and habitats. • During certain seasons we’ll take advantage of opportunities to find seasonal visitors such as the Laysan Albatross, Pacific Golden Pl0ver and Bristle-Thighed Curlew. • Along the coast, we’ll also keep an eye out for rare sea life including the critically endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal.

Activity:
Diamond Head Hike is 1.8 miles with an elevation gain of 700 feet. Other easy short walks. Moderate hike and climb at Diamond Head with paved surfaces, steep stairs and short sections of enclosed tunnels. Can be foggy & misty at Tantalus. Physical— Guests on this tour should not be physically challenged and able to hike up steep paved walkways and numerous stairs with an elevation gain of 700 feet in 0.80 miles. Age— All ages welcome!

Oahu Sunset on the Ridge
Join us on a walk through a serene forest that culminates with a breathtaking sunset. We have exclusive access to the area, so you’ll enjoy a tranquil tour with your family, friends, or small group. At an elevation of 2,400 feet above sea level you’ll experience sweeping views of the west side of the island. Learn about the history and culture of the islands and the cherished relationship between the people and the land. Our naturalist guide will also share the legends of the land and history of Hawaii. After a short walk through the forest, you can relax and enjoy island fresh appetizers as you relish in the glow of a Hawaiian sunset. Sunset views vary with Mother Nature. Highlights Include: • With exclusive access to the trail, you’ll experience a tranquil walk through the uplands of Waianae and can take in breathtaking views of Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, and Diamond Head. • Savor a scenic sunset from a private location up on the ridge at Palehua. Watch the sunset as it slips over the horizon of the Pacific. Enjoy chef’s choice of appetizers including seasonal fruits and vegetables. • Exclusive access to locations that are not open to the public. Your naturalist guide will escort you through the forest and share legends, history, and the culture of Hawaii.

Activity:
Hike about 1 mile. Rated easy to moderate with several short climbs. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs. A shorter version of the hike/walk allows for members in the group to sit out part of the walk and still enjoy the appetizers and sunset together.
Dress Code: Guests should wear closed-toe walking shoes, and bring a light sweatshirt or jacket. Restrictions: Physical - Must be able to walk over uneven, muddy, or slippery terrain and up short climbs.
Not recommended for those with back or neck problems or for pregnant women. Age - Children under 3 years old must be carried in a backpack carrier.
